No Server Required — Use Tailscale to Connect Your Home PC to Claush

There’s always a first hurdle when introducing Claush to someone.

“Don’t you need to rent a VPS?”

It’s true — Claush has until now assumed you had a cloud server (VPS). You’d rent a server for a few hundred to a few thousand yen a month, set it up — that was step one.

Even if people understood the convenience, many gave up at that hurdle with a “never mind then.”

You Will Soon Be Able to Start with Your Home PC

With an upcoming update, you will be able to connect your home Mac or Windows directly as a Claush target.

Zero server costs. Use the PC you already own.

No Static IP Needed — How Tailscale Works

When you think about SSH connections to a home PC from outside, these obstacles come to mind:

  • A static IP is required (home internet connections change IP every time)
  • You need to open ports on your router
  • Security concerns

With Tailscale, none of that is necessary.

Me: Is Tailscale a kind of VPN?

Sebas: It’s a mesh VPN based on WireGuard. Just install it and sign in with the same account, and each device gets assigned a virtual IP like 100.x.x.x. Even if your provider’s IP changes, this virtual IP stays the same.

Me: Isn’t the setup complicated?

Sebas: All you do is install and sign in. No router configuration required at all, and it’s free for personal use.

Here’s how it works:

[Home PC (always the same address at 100.x.x.x)]

Even if your home PC’s IP changes, the virtual IP assigned by Tailscale stays the same. You use this to SSH connect from Claush.

Control Your Home PC Just by Talking to It

Once you can SSH into your home PC via Tailscale, all that’s left is connecting Claush.

“Move report.xlsx from ~/Documents to the Downloads folder.”

“Check the git status of myapp in ~/projects.”

“Start Docker.”

Without memorizing any commands, you can control your home PC just by talking to it from your iPhone.

Even without a VPS, if you have a Mac or Windows at home — that’s all you will need to get started with Claush.
